Steve McQueen’s son and Karate Kid star Chad McQueen dies aged 63 as tributes pour in
Chad McQueen has died at the age of 63, The Karate Kid star’s family has confirmed.
The son of actor and racing driver Steve McQueen was best-known for his role in the 1984 classic and also appeared in the sequel, The Karate Kid II.
McQueen starred as Dutch in the original films and also featured in other films such as New York Cop in 1993.
It’s understood the actor died on Wednesday at his ranch in California, according to his wife Jeanie and children, Chase and Madison.
It’s been reported he died of progressive organ failure. McQueen is believed to have sustained an injury in 2020 and never fully recovered.
Speaking to Variety, his family said in a statement: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our father, Chad McQueen.
“His remarkable journey as a loving father to us, along with his unwavering commitment to our mother, truly exemplified a life filled with love and dedication.
“His passion for racing not only highlighted his exceptional talent but also served as a way to honor his father’s legacy, a testament to the values instilled in him.
“He passed his passion, knowledge and dedication down to us, and we will continue not only his legacy but our grandfather’s as well.
“As a family, we need to navigate this difficult time, and we kindly ask for privacy as we remember and celebrate his extraordinary life.”
McQueen’s final acting role was as Manny Carlotti in 2001 film, The Fall.
Away from his career, he was a keen racing driver and competed in various races.
Fans have taken to social media to remember and pay tribute to the actor. Taking to X, one penned: “RIP Chad McQueen #KarateKid #KarateKidPartII #CobraKaiOG.”
