BBC Saturday Kitchen fury as chef commits ‘disgusting’ and ‘sackable’ offence: ‘She shouldn’t have!’
BBC viewers flooded social media with their disgusted reactions on Saturday morning after watching a chef on Saturday Kitchen commit an almighty error.
Presenter Matt Tebbutt had welcomed Irish restauranteur Anna Haugh to the kitchen to promote her new cooking book. Within the opening 15 minutes, she joined the BBC presenter for a cooking demonstration.
The 43-year-old was cooking up a dish of rosemary pork chops topped with balsamic sauce and red onion marmalade, with Tebbutt lending a helping hand and asking the questions alongside her.
The two managed to pull off the dish without a hitch, although there was plenty of time for banter and putdowns from Haugh over Tebbutt’s skills.
As the demo edged towards its climax, Haugh explained: “Right, so I’ve just tossed the pork chops in a little bit of burnt butter and some herbs and I just think that’s when the magic happens with stuff like that… you didn’t burn that did you?”
“No, no!” Tebbutt replied while holding a pan of potatoes before Haugh ordered: “Drop of water, drop of water! You’ve got eyeballs.”
Tebbutt continued to tease his guest as he asked if the pork chops were going to be “restaurant portions”, prompting her to exclaim: “It’s like you want to upset me.”
“It’s gonna be fine, but none for you Matt,” she joked before cutting him off a fatty piece of the pork and quipping: “That should keep you quiet for a while.”
Haugh finally had to sort the balsamic sauce but there was still room for more hi-jinks with Tebbutt when he mistakenly tried to pour the marmalade on first.
“No, no, no!” Haugh said as she collared the BBC presenter before applying the sauce and then giving him the go-ahead to apply the marmalade.
After placing the pork chop on the plate, Haugh decided to finish off the creation with a drizzle of the butter from the pork chops’ frying pan.
But as she made her way to the plates, eagle-eyed viewers spotted her taste some of the butter off her spoon before returning the utensil to the butter and drizzle the butter over the pork.
While none of the guests seemed to mind, viewers flocked to X to fume at Haugh for her hygiene blunder.
“So Anna just licked the spoon then dished up with the same spoon, delicious #saturdaykitchen,” one fan sarcastically typed.
A second hit out at Haugh’s attitude: “If you’re finding fault with others in the kitchen, just ensure you don’t make a rookie error such as tasting the sauce with a spoon then using the same one to serve it….. #SaturdayKitchen.”
Elsewhere, a third echoed: “@Anahaugh #SaturdayKitchen licked a spoon and used it to serve. Maybe less attitude and more concentration on what she is doing.”

“Did she just stick that spoon in her gob & then serve with it…? [puke emoji] @SaturdayKitchen #saturdaykitchen,” a fourth raged.
While a fifth weighed in: “@SaturdayKitchen I watch every week and love Saturday kitchen but tasting the pork dish with a spoon then carrying on serving with the same spoon. I am a chef and would be sacked for that.”
Elsewhere a sixth remarked: “Nothing like watching a live chef promoting her restaurant while cooking a lovely dish, proceed to put the spoon in her mouth then put it back in the pan and then dish up from it and serve it to others @SaturdayKitchen.”
And another blasted: “@SaturdayKitchen Before putting the last touch of burnt butter on the crushed potatoes, that Irish woman put the spoon to her mouth, then proceeded to spoon the burnt butter onto the plate. It’s what we call the spit spoon. Disgusting!” (sic)
