Gorka Marquez left tearful as Gemma Atkinson shares health scare after finding ‘lump’: ‘Wasn’t alright’
Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Marquez became tearful recently after his partner Gemma Atkinson suffered a frightening health scare.
Hits Radio host Atkinson, 40, shared with listeners how she’d discovered a lump in her breast and detailed her dancer fiancé’s emotional response.
Speaking to radio co-host Mike Toolan, the former soap star explained she had been for a mammogram as well as an ultrasound that day and thankfully had been given the all-clear.
“I had my very first mammogram today,” she remarked.
Sharing further details, told listeners: “I found a little lump in my boob about two months ago.”
Before elaborating, she shared how she’d sought medical advice from Marquez’s Strictly partner from this year, TV doctor Punam Krishnan.
“I actually at one point asked Dr Punam to check,” she added, with Toolan asking: “Gorka’s dance partner from Morning Live?”
“The first time I met Punam in rehearsals… ‘Hi, nice to meet you. Please can you look at this?'” Atkinson replied.
The mother-of-two continued to share news of her recent appointment, explaining: “They did a mammogram and an ultrasound, then I had to do that wait in the waiting room.
“But she just called me and literally, her words were, ‘No concerns, no worries, nothing sinister, just a little cyst,’ and I want [sigh with relief]. Because not everyone’s as lucky.”
When her co-star asked if Strictly stalwart Marquez had been “alright”, Atkinson laughed: “No, of course he wasn’t.
“He cries at everything, Gorka. They started asking me about Mia and Thiago while I had my hand over my head and I just heard [sniffles] and I popped my head around and I went, ‘What you crying for?’ He went, ‘I don’t know! Is she going to be okay?'”
However, she went on to make clear: “But yeah, I‘m all good. All is well.”
The radio station shared a clip of the moment on Instagram, captioning the post: “Gemma told us about her first mammogram experience last week.”
The actor quickly took to the comments to advise: “Always check your boobies!”
She also took her Instagram Story to explain to followers: “I felt very lucky last week. If ever anyone feels worried, please go get checked. Thank you to the lovely staff at Bolton NHS Hospital.”
