Chris McCausland an ’emotional wreck’ as he breaks down in tears of BBC Strictly speech
Strictly Come Dancing star Chris McCausland broke down in tears as he opened up about his journey on the BBC dance competition.
Tonight, the star performed the Charleston to The Blue Vipers of Brooklyn’s When You’re Smiling and Viennese Waltz to Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters.
In his first dance, he scored 33 out of a possible 40, with the judges noting that he could have improved on his energy through the Charleston.
However, everything changed when he stepped onto the dancefloor for the Viennese Waltz and scored 36 out of a possible 40.
Before he received his score, McCausland and his partner Dianne Buswell were already in tears when they went to hear their feedback from the judges.
Standing with Tess Daly, she pointed out: “Dianne, you got emotional as well,” leaving the stars to quip back: “I know I just can’t believe he is doing it!”
Giving her feedback, head judge Shirley Ballas noted: “Chris is getting all emotional and that is making us all emotional as well. Oh, Chris.
“From the very very beginning of the show, who didn’t understand about picking your arms up or where your centre was?
“And to be able to watch you this evening, get your arms up so that you have some spacial awareness where you’re going, some beautiful footwork going on here, and that understanding.
“When she went between your legs it was seamless, up she went, and you picked her up on the other side, it was just stunning. You should be so proud of yourself.”
Also in awe of his performance, Anton Du Beke added: “Your fleckle over there was beautiful, you move like nobody else in the show.
“Your timing is beautiful, we know all of that stuff. The thing that I most admire about you is I think about you, and thinking about other people who think they might not be able to do something, doubting whether they could do something.
“I think about you and what people are going to do, I don’t think I can do that then they will think about you and go you know what I probably can. You are an inspiration.”
Craig Revel Horwood simply stated: “My pen went down. Magical darling, emotional,” leaving McCausland and Buswell to break down.
Up at the Claud-atoriam, McCausland expressed: “I mean when you start this series, they ask you for a list of songs you would like to dance too.
“I put this song on the list and I didn’t know anything about dancing, I wrote I reckon this song would suit one of those spinny dizzy ones. It just felt wonderful tonight.”

Praising her partner, Buswell emotionally noted: “I have taught Chris this whole time with no visual cues. He’s never been able to watch a video back to see whether he has done a great job or to look at anything and go well maybe I could improve on that.
“He has never been able to see any of his competitions, what they are like, he has had none of that yet he has seen this competition so well because he has captured the spirit of the show and I could not be prouder of him and I think he has shown that things are so possible.
“Before when I got Chris, I had messages, a lot of messages saying ‘You’re going to have a really quick series, it is amazing you got Chris.
“You are going to learn a lot but you will be out pretty soon’ and to be in the semi-final and prove so many people wrong is a testament to Chris so he definitely deserves to be here.”
