Pete Wicks admits ‘it’s a sad existence’ as he shares real reason for failed romances amid Maura Higgins rumours
Strictly Come Dancing’s grand finale is airing this week, marking the end of another glitzy series of the BBC competition.
TV personality Pete Wicks fell at the final hurdle last week, narrowly missing out on a place in the finale, but while he may no longer be on screens, his love life has remained at the centre of public interest.
The romantic life of former The Only Way Is Essex (Towie) star Wicks, 36, has been making headlines lately, with the reality star’s previous romances having aired on the reality show.
More recently, he has been linked with former Love Island star Maura Higgins, who has just left the Australian jungle after becoming a favourite on this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Additionally, the Strictly rumour mill was swirling this year with speculation about Wicks and his dance partner Jowita Przystal potentially being closer than friends.
During his Towie days, Wicks was known for being a bit of a ladies’ man, but in a recent confession he candidly opened up about not being ready to settle down while simultaneously not wanting to “die alone”.
He explained how he has struggled to maintain long-term relationships, telling Olivia Attwood on his and Sam Thompson’s podcast Staying Relevant: “I do feel like I’m now at a different stage of my life. I’m an older man now than when I was younger and a complete p***k.”
When Attwood pointed out he has always been good at finding a partner, the TV personality quipped: “It’s keeping them.”
“I feel like it’s because you for so long have not let anyone in,” Attwood analysed.
“You like your own space, you like to be with your dogs at home and your beer, it’s quite a sad scene really actually.”
“It is a little bit of a sad existence,” dog-lover Wicks agreed.
Opening up about his concerns for the future, he admitted: “I don’t want to die alone.”
While he seems determined to find the one, Wicks said just months ago that he didn’t yet feel “ready” for a long-term commitment.
Speaking in September, he told The Times magazine he isn’t “ready to wholeheartedly commit to a romantic relationship,” citing how he doesn’t “fully understand” himself.
While neither have confirmed their relationship, Wicks and Higgins were seen kissing in October at The Pride of Britain Awards.
The Irish television personality, 34, claimed she was single during a chat on I’m A Celebrity but did allude to the fact she may have a romantic connection with someone in the UK.

Following the chat in camp, Dean McCullough quipped to ITV viewers that the romantic interest was from Towie, leading many to believe she was referring to Wicks.
However, now Higgins is back in England, it’s likely all eyes will be on the two for any potential romance updates.
Wicks made his exit from Strictly last week after making it to the semi-finals and forming a close friendship with Przystal in that time.
