Max George forced into hospital return after pacemaker surgery due to concerning side effects amid heart issue recovery
The Wanted star Max George is set to return to hospital after experiencing a concerning “flicking feeling” in his chest following recent heart surgery.
The 36-year-old singer had been discharged home for Christmas after undergoing a two-and-a-half-hour operation to fit a pacemaker to address a 2:1 heart block.
In a video posted to Instagram on Monday, George revealed doctors were uncertain about the cause of the new sensation in his chest.
The Manchester-born performer shared that he would be attending a check-up appointment tomorrow to investigate the mysterious flicking feeling, which he says is occurring in the left-hand side of his chest.
“The doctors aren’t too sure” about the cause of the sensation, George explained in his social media update.
Seeking advice and reassurance from his followers, George said: “I’m in the hospital tomorrow for another check-up because I’ve been getting this ‘flicking’ feeling in the left-hand side of my chest. I’m actually getting it now.”
The singer expressed hope that the issue might be minor, suggesting: “Hopefully it’s maybe a nerve touching it and it’ll go away in time, or maybe they may have to move the wires slightly.”
George admitted his limited knowledge about the medical device, stating: “I’m all ears because all I’m doing at the moment is research because I know nothing about pacemakers. This came completely out of the blue.”
He concluded his video message by asking his followers: “Any information I can get would be much appreciated.”
In a Christmas Eve update from his hospital bed, George reported feeling “knackered” but noted his “numbers are way better” following the surgery.
The singer revealed he would need to undergo additional tests in the coming weeks regarding his lungs, though he described this as “the least of my worries right now.”
Despite feeling “battered and bruised,” George maintained optimism, offering a thumbs up to the camera in his hospital update.
He was able to spend Christmas with his girlfriend, actress Maisie Smith, whom he described as “the best present ever.”
Smith, who is currently starring in Beauty And The Beast at Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre, performed on Christmas Eve before visiting George, with her next show scheduled for Boxing Day afternoon.
George first rose to prominence as a member of The Wanted, after transitioning from a promising football career with Preston North End.
Before joining The Wanted in 2009, he was part of the band Avenue, who appeared on The X Factor in 2006.
