Emilia Fox pays tribute to BBC Silent Witness co-star David Caves with sweet statement ahead of drama return
BBC Silent Witness star Emilia Fox, 50, has shared some kinds words towards her co-star David Caves, 46, as they prepare for the new series of the long-running drama.
The previous series ended with Caves’ character Jack Hodgson proposing to Fox’s alter-ego Dr Nikki Alexander after years of teasing fans with their will-they-won’t-they relationship.
Fox loved the development of Hodgson and Alexander’s romance with her praising the coming together of two people “at a certain time in their lives”, adding: “They’re not getting married when they’re in their 20s.”
The 50-year-old explained that the late blossoming relationship was something she “really felt passionate about portraying”.
She also celebrated the audience reaction ahead of the series’ return, adding: “It’s the best, most wonderful feeling when the audience really like something and feel that they’ve got what they wanted.”
However, Fox saved her warmest words for her co-star who she considered herself “so lucky” to be working with.
“You can always rely on him for the most amazing performance. He’s an incredibly skilled actor, which makes it very easy to play opposite him,” Fox glowed about Caves while speaking with the BBC.
She continued by describing Caves as “kind and good, and he’s a gentleman as well”.
“How lucky it is to have that friendship, on screen and off screen. I really love working with him,” Fox declared.
Beyond their friendship, Fox also praised the working relationship and shared love for Silent Witness with her co-star.
“We both love the show. We never take it for granted and want it to be the best. We have a very similar approach to our work,” the 50-year-old enthused.
Fox added that their relationship of “familiarity and a trust in each other” means she relies on Caves “more than any other actor I’ve ever worked with”.
Remarking on Fox, Caves was similarly glowing. The 46-year-old revealed he had “tremendous time and love for Emilia”.
“There isn’t anybody who works harder or knows the show better or cares about the scripts as much as she does. I really admire the fact that she still has that care and love,” he remarked.
Caves concluded: “After 22 years of doing it, she still loves filming, she still has the passion for getting up at four o’clock in the morning and coming on set, seemingly fresh as a daisy, putting everything into it, and treating everybody very well. Everybody really respects that.”
Speaking about the upcoming series, Fox said she was “very excited” for fans to experience stories that have been “written by four of our very strongest writers”.

She teased that the first story will deal with the generational friction between the young and old on the housing market.
“Something that I love about this show is that it shines lights on all elements of society,” Fox explained.
The 50-year-old credits writer Tim Prager with “finding those stories which are very, very topical and give the drama a meaning outside of the show, because they resonate through life”.
