ITV Out There viewers deem Martin Clunes drama ‘too dark’ as they slam ‘violent’ scenes
Gripping drama Out There continued on Monday, with Martin Clunes fronting the crime series that explores county line drugs in the countryside.
The latest couple of episodes, which aired over the weekend and on Monday, saw a few new twists, but fans were left distracted by the graphic nature of the episode.
On Sunday’s episode, drug dealer, Kenny was stabbed by Johnny Williams, who is played by Louis Ashbourne Serkis.
Johnny is the son of Clunes’ character, struggling farmer Nathan.
It came as a different drug deal had been blackmailing Johnny, forcing him to do drug runs for him and Kenny.
However, things took a darker turn when Kenny attempted to rape Johnny’s sister, Sadie.
Johnny soon sprung into action to protect his sister, bursting into the room and stabbing Kenny. Scenes saw blood gushing onto the floor, leaving viewers sickened.
In a state of shock, Johnny turned to Nathan, who helped him clean up the scene and cover up what had happened.
Viewers were surprised by the grisly scenes though, with one writing on X: “This has got very grim..#outthere.”
“Proper dark this innit!?! #outthere,” a second agreed, while another admitted: “#OutThere, feeling too violent & dark for me.”
“Knife crime being normalised #OutThere,” a fourth shared.
Others took issue with the unrealistic nature of the father and son’s “clean up ” efforts, with one adding: “OutThere one way or another forensics will track them down.”
“They make it look so easy, but you always get caught out in the end. Small community, no escape.#outthere,” another noted.
“That clean-up job won’t fool SOCO… #OutThere,” someone else commented. (sic)
The drama tells a gripping story with an ITV synopsis reading: “Clunes plays Nathan Williams, a man who runs a farm which has been in his family for generations, caught in a numbing rhythm of work and grief following the death of his wife, Sabine, two years previously.
