Sandi Toksvig makes scathing Great British Bake Off admission as she shares reason for exit: ‘Not for me’
Former Great British Bake Off host Sandi Toksvig hosted the show alongside comedian Noel Fielding from 2017 to 2020 before being replaced by Matt Lucas.
Lucas has since been replaced himself by Alison Hammond, who is fronting the current series with Fielding. However, Toksvig recently explained she doesn’t speak to Fielding as she made a brutal admission about her time on the beloved show.
Revealing she stepped away from the “biggest pay cheque of my life,” by walking away from the Channel 4 show, the 66-year-old revealed she “wasn’t happy” during her stint on the series.
When asked if she was friends with Fielding, 51, she simply told The Times: “No”.
Opening up on her reasons for quitting, she continued: “It’s not for me. I walked away from the biggest pay cheque of my life, but that’s fine.
“I’d never watched it. I still haven’t watched it. I didn’t understand it.
“Cakes are readily available in the shops. I didn’t enjoy the process. There was this showbiz thing you’d made with Bake Off. It was a big show that was getting a lot of attention.
“But my wife Deb said, ‘It’s not making you happy.”
Responding to the broadcaster and comedian’s remarks, Fielding stated: “Sandi, as we know, is a massive brain,” reports the Express.
He added: “She went to Cambridge, she’s super-smart, she writes, she does politics, she needs to be stimulated.
“She never stays anywhere too long except QI, which is the perfect show for her.
“The difference between us is that I’ve always really enjoyed hanging out with the bakers. I befriend them and get them to open up.”
Meanwhile, the series continues to be a fan favourite, demonstrated by the amount of reaction the latest episode on Tuesday sparked.
It came after baker Dylan was awarded the coveted Star Baker title despite coming last in the technical challenge.
