Elton John, 77, left with limited vision after severe eye infection as he pens emotional health update
Elton John, 77, has revealed that he has been left with limited vision after suffering from a severe eye infection over the summer, sharing an emotional update with his fans.
The singer took to Instagram and revealed he is “recovering slowly” as he opened up about his recent health woes, noting that the painful illness has meant that one of his eyes has less vision than the other.
In a statement on his social media account, Elton wrote: “Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye.
“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye. I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.
“I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far. With love and gratitude.”
Friends and fans of the legendary singer were quick to flood his comment section with well-wishes, as fashion designer Donatella Versace wrote: “Sending you so much love Elton! Feel better soon. Love you,” alongside three heart emojis.
Westlife star Brian McFadden commented with a string of four heart emojis, with Billie Jean King adding: “Sending our love and support your way. Feel better soon, friend.”
A fan of John’s noted: “Take all the time you need my friend; heal up, rest up.”
“Awww get well soon Elton!!! Sending you lots of love and positive energy you’ve got this,” someone else gushed before another said: “Oh no, didn’t expect to read this! Hope you are recovering well and sending healing thoughts to you, Sir.” (sic)
In 2021, the I’m Still Standing hitmaker underwent hip surgery, which resulted in him having to reschedule a few shows on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
Not long after the procedure, John was welcomed to Windsor Castle for the investiture ceremony marking his appointment as a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour by then-Prince Charles.
Speaking at the ceremony, where he walked with the support of a stick, he said: “I may not look as if I’m 100 per cent fit – I’m not quite – but I’m still raring to go and I’ve got a lot more work to do as far as my life goes.”
His unexpected health woe comes after his longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin revealed that his secret new album could be just weeks away, after fifty years of performances across the world.
John surprised fans and instead decided to start work on brand new music, with the I’m Still Standing singer predicting that fans would fall in love with the record.
