James Martin’s heartbreaking hidden health battle which leaves him struggling daily: ‘Really hard work’
James Martin, the beloved TV chef known for his culinary prowess on ITV’s James Martin’s Saturday Morning, has recently opened up about a hidden health battle affecting his work.
The 52-year-old revealed he struggles with severe dyslexia, which makes presenting particularly challenging.
Despite his ease in cooking and chatting simultaneously, Martin finds reading from an autocue “really hard work”.
Speaking on Kaye Adams’ BBC Radio Scotland show, Martin admitted: “I’m severely dyslexic so reading anything off an autocue is really hard work, so if I’m allowed to cook and chat that’s where I feel at home.”
Martin’s struggle with dyslexia has led him to develop coping strategies for his television work.
On his show earlier this year, he revealed the assistance he receives from his autocue operator, Sam.
“I have this amazing woman called Sam, Sam [on the] autocue, who puts stuff on bigger type for me so that I can properly read it,” Martin explained to newsreader Lucrezia Millarini.
Despite his challenges, Martin’s ability to cook and entertain simultaneously has impressed his colleagues. Loose Women’s Kaye Adams described his multitasking as “fascinating”, likening it to “choreography”.
Martin’s dyslexia revelation comes alongside an update on his recent health challenges, including facial cancer, which he was first diagnosed with back in 2018.
Earlier this year, he shared positive news on ITV’s Lorraine, stating: “Yes, the stitches have fallen out, as you know, the last time I was on, I was in the middle of operations. As we speak, the stitches have fallen out of my body at the moment and that’s all clear, onwards and upwards!”
However, Martin also disclosed that the cancer has returned on several occasions, necessitating regular treatments. Despite these setbacks, he maintains a resilient attitude towards his health struggles.
Despite the challenges posed by his dyslexia and cancer treatments, James Martin maintains a positive outlook.
His resilience is evident in his continued success on television and his upcoming tour.
Martin’s ability to overcome these obstacles whilst entertaining millions of viewers is a testament to his determination and passion for cooking.
The chef’s openness about his health battles has resonated with fans. By sharing his struggles, Martin has not only raised awareness about dyslexia and cancer but also inspired others facing similar challenges.
As he continues to navigate his health issues, Martin’s focus remains on his culinary career and connecting with his audience through his love of food.
